You and Your Passwords
Generally, you have only one user name and password. This same username and password is used for accessing all of the services that eScape CS supplies to you. For FTP and WebDAV, your user name and password are all you need to connect and start working.
Your Domain
The tricky part is that along with the name and password, you also have a domain. We use the domain for certain things, specifically for e-mail and for changing your password. Some customers will have registered more than one domain with us, for instance they might have the following domains:
- nervestaple.com
- nervestaple.net
- nervestaple.org
- secure.nervestaple.com
Even though they have three domains and one subdomain, we only consider nervestaple to be their domain. Whenever we talk about your domain, we don't include the end bit (the Top Level Domain).
This domain will be important when setting up your e-mail or changing your password. When you setup your e-mail, you will need to put in your username, then the "@" sign, then your domamin. Here is an example:
That is the customer's user name ("twitch") the "@" sign, and then their domain ("nervestaple.com"). This isn't necessarily the same as this person's e-mail address. Sometimes you might have several e-mail addresses that all go to your one mail account (like postmaster@domain.com or webmaster@domain.com). We have some more information about this on our EMail page.
When you change your password, you will put in your user name and your domain. That way we can be sure the right account is being updated.
Changing Your Password
You should change your password pretty regularly as a matter of habit. If you think that someone may have stolen your password, then you should change it right away. We have a web page that you can go to that will change your password for you.
This page is on our secure site and that means that all of your communication with the site will be encrypted so no one can read it. This is the safest and best way to change your password.
When changing your password, try to pick something that you can easily remember, but someone else will find hard to guess. We strongly recommend that you mix up some letters with some numbers. If you want to make it really hard to guess, capitalize some of the letters. I usually use the name of something followed by a year that was important to me. Here are some examples:
- toast2001
- 1963yacht
- toa$t0284
- do11ar$9543
Lost Passwords
If you have lost your password let us know right away. We will set your password to something new (but extremely difficult to remember) and send it out to you in an e-mail. You can then change your password with the password change page.
You should not use this password! The password we send out to you is only temporary, you need to change it right away. We pick something difficult to remember to encourage you to change the password. Because we send it out over e-mail, it's possible that someone might intercept it along the way and compromise your account. The smart and safe move is to change the password to something that you are more confortable with and will find easier to remember.
