FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is the old-school way of managing your website. Web DAV is the cool new way to do it, but Web DAV isn't so great at moving large files around. Most people use mostly Web DAV and then pull out FTP when they need to upload something large.

They way you use FTP will vary depending on your operating system and your FTP client. One word of warning: you cannot upload to FTP sites with the Finder on Macintosh, you'll need a regular FTP client (or use the command line). We've used Transmit on the Macintosh quite a bit and it works well.

When you connect with FTP, you must be sure you are connecting using the correct port. For security reasons, we assign a different port to each customer's web area. When you first signed up you should have received an e-mail with this information. If you've missplaced this message or you've forgotten what your port number was, e-mail Miles and he'll get that information out to you right away.
